Title: Standards and Intellectual Property in Wireless Communications- The Evolving Legal Space

Date/Time/Venue: 18 November 2024 / 14:00 PM - 15:00 PM / Anand Swaroop Auditorium, Block 45

Abstract: The panel discussion will revolve around the critical intersection of standards and intellectual property (IP) in the rapidly evolving wireless telecommunications space. As the global demand for faster, more reliable wireless communication grows, setting robust standards is essential for ensuring interoperability, innovation, and the seamless deployment of next- generation networks like 5G and beyond. However, the IP landscape associated with these standards presents unique challenges, particularly in balancing the rights of patent holders with the need for widespread technology adoption. Key issues that will be explored during the session include the ongoing disputes over fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing of standard-essential patents (SEPs), the increasing complexity of global patent pools, and the challenges of patent thickets, which can stifle innovation and lead to costly litigation. The panel will also delve into possible solutions, such as enhancing transparency in the SEP licensing process, fostering greater collaboration between standard-setting organizations (SSOs) and IP holders, and exploring alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to reduce litigation risks. The discussion aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how to navigate the intricate relationship between standards and IP to foster innovation while ensuring fair access to essential technologies.

Title: Unraveling Mental Health Trends: Predictive Insights Through NLP Analysis

Abstract: Mental health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, yet it often remains underdiagnosed and untreated due to stigma, lack of awareness, and limited access to resources. With the increasing availability of digital communication platforms, there is a growing body of textual data that reflects individuals' thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Leveraging this data through advanced computational techniques such as Natural Language Processing (NLP) offers a novel approach to understanding and predicting mental health status. By analyzing language patterns in text, NLP can provide insights into an individual's mental state, potentially enabling early detection and timely intervention. This paper explores the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) for predicting mental health status from textual data. Employing decision trees, it analyzes linguistic patterns to classify individuals' mental health conditions. Testing and evaluation on diverse datasets reveal promising results, indicating the potential of NLP-based approaches for early detection and intervention in mental health disorders. The study underscores the importance of leveraging NLP techniques in healthcare for improving mental health outcomes and facilitating personalized interventions.

Title: Tweeting the Pulse: Unveiling Sentiments on India's new Education Policy

Abstract: In today's digital age, where social media platforms play a pivotal role in public discourse, it is essential to gauge sentiments towards major policy initiatives. This project focuses on analyzing Twitter data to explore public sentiment regarding India's Education Policy of 2020. The goal is to develop a machine learning-based sentiment analysis model specifically designed for tweets about educational policies in India. By categorizing tweets as positive, negative, or neutral, the project aims to reveal public attitudes and perceptions toward the policy. The model integrates domain-specific knowledge and advanced natural language processing techniques to enhance the precision and relevance of sentiment analysis within the context of educational policy discussions. Ultimately, the project aspires to provide policymakers and stakeholders with meaningful insights derived from social media, thereby supporting informed decision-making and encouraging more active public participation in educational reforms.
